Calories and Nutrition by Weight

Plain puffed rice has 355 kcal per 100 g, with 77.7 g carbohydrate, 7.45 g protein, 1.6 g fat and 4 mg sodium. This page converts those figures into the servings people actually eat.

The per-100 g panel is the foundation for everything else. At 355 kcal, puffed rice sits in the same energy band as many dry grains, but its very low density means a visually large portion can weigh very little. That gap between appearance and weight is the source of most calorie-estimation errors.

The three serving sizes that cover most home and street use are the 25 g katori at 89 kcal, the 40 g medium bowl at 142 kcal and the 50 g bhel base at 178 kcal. A full 200 g packet, which is often treated as one portion, adds up to 710 kcal.

Macronutrients scale linearly with weight. A 25 g katori carries roughly 19 g carbohydrate and 1.9 g protein; a 50 g bhel base carries roughly 39 g carbohydrate and 3.7 g protein. Fat stays low throughout at about 0.4 g per 25 g.

Micronutrients are worth tracking separately. Per 100 g, puffed rice provides 2.5-3.0 mg iron, or 14-17 percent of the daily value, and 0.4-0.5 mg thiamin, or 30-35 percent. A 25 g katori delivers roughly a quarter of those shares.

Sodium is minimal in the plain grain at 4 mg per 100 g. In a prepared snack, almost all the sodium comes from added chutney, packaged masala or sev, not from the puffed rice itself.

Because puffing gelatinises the starch, the grain is easier to digest than cooked rice and is naturally gluten-free. Those properties do not alter the calorie count but are relevant for digestive comfort and for gluten-free diets.
